The New Museum took its movable project, IDEAS CITY, to Istanbul—invited there by the Istanbul Design Biennial and sponsored by Audi Urban Future Initiative. We hosted a keynote address by Amanda Burden, Commissioner of the New York City Department of City Planning, two panels devoted to the topic of Untapped Capital (Panel 1: Structures and Networks; Panel 2: Collaboration and Exchange), and two workshops in collaboration with SALT Galata. A final panel was devoted to a discussion of the role of mobility in the cities of tomorrow. During the course of these myriad events, a multitude of adjectives were applied to the word “city.” Those listed below were part of presentations, provocations, conceptualizations, and conversations.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi, The Smoking Fire, plate VI from “The Imaginary Prisons (Le Carceri d’Invenzione),” 1745 (1761 edition). Etching
