Please note this event is being postponed due to inclement weather.

To celebrate Lower East Side History Month this May, volunteers are encouraged to chalk drawings, stories, and historical accounts in front of their places of work, play, and residence on sidewalks throughout the Lower East Side. On Sunday, May 1, you can join New Museum staff and teens from the Museum’s Experimental Study Program (ESP) as they commemorate the Bowery Artist Tribute, the Museum’s research project chronicling artists who have lived and worked on or near the Bowery. Please meet us in front of the Museum at 11 a.m., or find us on the Bowery to help us chalk the stories of artists who were once present in the neighborhood. Participants can Instagram their own chalked illustrations of Bowery artists’ works and tag their pictures with #LESstories and #BoweryArtistTribute for a chance to win a one-year Membership to the New Museum.
