First Saturday for Families: The Teddy Bear Project

Join us for a family workshop offered in conjunction with the exhibition “The Keeper,” on view at the New Museum through September 25, 2016. With over 4,000 works on view, “The Keeper” tells the stories of various “keepers” through the objects they cherished and chose to preserve.
In the installation of Partners (The Teddy Bear Project) (2002), families will view a huge display conceived by Ydessa Hendeles and made up of over 3,000 family-album photographs of people posing with teddy bears and cases containing antique teddy bears. A symbol of childhood, the teddy bear has appealed not only to the imaginations of children, but also to the dreams and nostalgia of adults. After experiencing Hendeles’s amazing collection, families will have the opportunity to customize their own teddy bears and pose for family portraits. Teddy bears and other materials are limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
New Museum First Saturdays for Families are free of charge. This program is designed and recommended for families with children aged between four and twelve years, and includes free New Museum admission for up to two adults per family. Children under eighteen are always admitted free. No preregistration is required. Space is limited, and tickets are given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Your entire party must be present; tickets will not be given to partial parties.
