Art on the Bowery: Slumming It: Myth and Culture on the Bowery (2005)

Film/Video

Scott Elliott’s 2005 documentary Slumming It delves into the sustained myth of New York's Bowery, while unraveling the history of this notorious street; from farmland of the wealthy to the cultural center of the city, from birthplace of vaudeville to den of iniquity, from theme park to skid row, with a curious look at its unpredictable future. Highlights include interviews with Martha Rosler and other Bowery artists, plus extensive commentary by cultural and art historians.

Slumming It was screened as part of the Bowery Artist Tribute, a project celebrating artists who have lived and worked on the Bowery.
