Museum as Hub: Clare Davies on Open Studio Cairo
Open Studio Cairo is an international residency program in downtown Cairo exploring creative approaches to sound. Seventeen cultural practitioners from over ten different countries spent two weeks in the program. It was designed to serve as a platform for dialogue and creative collaboration among residency participants including artists, musicians, and curators, and between participants from various publics, shifting the focus away from the production of work and towards alternative models of international exchange.
This program is part of “Museum as Hub: Antikhana,” a project organized by the Townhouse Gallery of Contemporary Art, Cairo, on view in the fifth-floor Museum as Hub spacethrough September 21, 2008.
Clare Davies is a PhD candidate and Erwin Panofsky Fellow at the Institute of Fine Arts in New York. She contributes regularly to Bidoun and Artforum.com. Davies organized the Open Studio Project while Associate Curator at the Townhouse Gallery and divides her time between New York and Cairo.
