“Satellite Cultures, an exhibition of recent video work from Australia, presented a six-hour program of videotapes exploring complex issues of colonialism, national identity, and racial conflict that have marked Australia’s modern history. Organized by guest curator Sally Couacaud, director of Artspace Visual Arts Centre in Sydney, the program features more than twenty works produced since 1975, ranging form early pieces examining video’s links to performance art to recent work by independent film- and videomakers examining a wide range of aesthetic and thematic issues.”
