Festival of Ideas for the New City
The Festival of Ideas for the New City took place from May 4-8, 2011, and was a major new collaborative initiative in New York involving scores of Downtown organizations, from universities to arts institutions and community groups, working together to effect change. A first for New York, the Festival harnessed the power of the creative community to imagine the future city and explore the ideas destined to shape it. It attracted more than 60,000 visitors, took place in multiple venues Downtown, and was organized around three central programs: a three-day slate of symposia; an innovative StreetFest along the Bowery; and over eighty independent projects and public events. The Festival served as a platform for artists, writers, architects, engineers, designers, urban farmers, planners, and thought leaders to exchange ideas, propose solutions, and invite the public to participate.
On the Festival of Ideas blog you can find wrap-up posts and updates on the Festival. Links to the panels and keynotes from the Festival Conference will be posted in the near future.

The Worms
A team of designers from the studios Family and PlayLab were selected as winners in a competition to re-envision the common outdoor event tent. Their brightly colored tents, “The Worms,” debuted along the Bowery at the StreetFest on May 7.
