Love Yourself Project

The Love Yourself Project uses interdisciplinary visual arts and global partnering as catalysts for inclusive, community-based projects meant to increase self-awareness and cultural self-esteem.

On November 19, 2010, the Love Yourself team began taking to the streets and subways of New York City, greeting people with messages of kindness and love, and distributing more than five hundred “Love Yourself” stickers and hand-folded hearts. We encouraged people to engage in a conversation about self-love. Since then, educational, art, and community events have been held in Pakistan, the Netherlands, Paris, Luxembourg, West Africa, Miami, and Australia, among other locations.

To date, we have distributed more than seventy thousand stickers and participated in events such as Figment, Flow 12, Festival Of Ideas, Art Basel, and Safe Horizons. We encourage all to participate and share a common human experience by asking others the following question: “What does loving yourself mean?”

We went in search of Lower Manhattan businesses that go above and beyond the products and services they offer. These businesses give in ways few may know about: They help a person in need, they make donations to honorable organizations, they give the love in their heart. The Map of Love will be on view at StreetFest showing all the businesses and people who have a heart and give love to others. The exhibition continues at Michael Mut Gallery, 97 ave C, May 1–25. Opening: May 2, 7–9 p.m.
