SOCIAL MIRRORING

SOCIAL MIRRORING is a multidisciplinary performance workshop organized by Common Space that will use Laughter Yoga, movement, and art to develop communicative dynamics within social group settings.

Targeting specific ritualized settings and milieus specific to time of day, SOCIAL MIRRORING is a dynamic, multi-sensorial experience that will integrate a Laughter Yoga session led by Lisa Levine of Maha Rose, choreographed movement by Juri Onuki, a projected video and soundtrack by Jon Santos of Common Space, and a real-time recording and processing composition by Abby Echiverri.

The goal of this workshop is to improve our sense of self and relieve social anxiety when interacting with groups of people. We will explore various social themes, rituals, and processes intended to improve social skills within a leisurely context and ultimately achieve a pure sense of joy from the presence other people.

Sign up for this class by emailing your first and last name, and contact information to Philip Shafer at philip@commonspacestudio.com.

Participation in this workshop requires your commitment and mandatory attendance on Friday May 3 at 12:00 p.m. at the Old School and Saturday May 4 at 2:30 p.m. at Storefront for Art and Architecture’s SpaceBuster in Sara D. Roosevelt Park at East Houston Street.

SOCIAL MIRRORING will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. in room 2.3 of the Old School.

Please arrive 15 minutes early for check-in, which will be through the red doors at 233 Mott Street. Although unlikely, Workshop times and classrooms are subject to change.
