Terry Smith: Capital Revisited

Cover Image:

Terry Smith, Capital, British Museum, 1995. Photo: Terry Smith

Artist Terry Smith will activate underused walls and other surfaces in New York City to create an iteration of his 1995 architectural drawing “Capital.” Drawing is an important part of the artist’s thought process. Smith’s interventions will question the use of public space and encourage new thinking about historic and contemporary architecture in the city. Smith values the serendipitous experience of discovering a drawing in a public space; he will lead tours of the sites during the StreetFest on May 4, 2013. Following IDEAS CITY 2013, the Drawing Center will organize a gallery exhibition with Smith, presenting documentation of the public project in the form of photographs, drawings, and notebooks. The exhibition will take place in the Drawing Center’s Lab Gallery, June 18–August 18, 2013.
