See it first! “Head Gas” is the first New York exhibition by Italian-born, Berlin-based artist Enrico David. Over the past twenty years, David has produced a body of work encompassing painting, drawing, sculpture, and collage that draws upon a rich variety of sources and expresses a range of complex emotional states. Curated by Gary Carrion-Murayari, “Head Gas” is the second exhibition featured in the New Museum’s recently inaugurated ‘Studio 231’ series. For his ‘Studio 231’ exhibition, David has created an entirely new body of work..

Join the curators and artists for the opening of “The Ungovernables,” the New Museum’s second Triennial. The Triennial is a signature initiative and the only recurring international exhibition in New York City devoted to emerging artists from around the world, providing an important platform for a new generation of artists who are shaping the current discourse of contemporary art and the future of culture. Curated by Eungie Joo, Keith Haring Director and Curator of Education and Public Programs, “The Ungovernables” features thirty-four artists, artist groups, and temporary collectives—totaling over fifty participants—born between the mid-1970s and mid-1980s, many of whom have never before exhibited in the US.

Join Jenny Moore, Assistant Curator, for a day trip to the Brant Foundation Art Study Center in Greenwich, Connecticut, where we will be met by artist David Altmejd for a private viewing of his current solo exhibition. Round-trip transportation will be provided between the New Museum in NY and the Brant Foundation in CT. Film Screening in the Sky Room: Girl with the Black Balloons
(Running time 59 minutes)
From first-time director Corinne Van Der Borch, this film follows Bettina, said to be the most beautiful woman to have ever lived in the Chelsea Hotel, according to residents, but who has hidden herself away in her studio for over forty years. Girl with the Black Balloons was named “Best of the Fest” at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2010 and received the Metropolis Jury Award for the 2011 DOC NYC Festival.
