Brad Kahlhamer, Spirit Animal, 2014. Acrylic on canvas, 72 × 72 in (182.9 × 182.9 cm)
Join Richard Flood, Director of Special Projects and Curator at Large, for a visit to the Bushwick studio of artist Brad Kahlhamer. His work has been described by New York Times critic Holland Cotter as possessing “a charge of psychic irritation and urgency.” It often weaves together motifs from Native American visual culture—such as totem poles, teepees, and hawks—and elements of popular culture to interrogate Kahlhamer’s own multilayered identity.
