Artist Elizabeth Peyton and Massimiliano Gioni, Edlis Neeson Artistic Director of the New Museum, will explore what it means for contemporary artists engaged with portraiture to be a witness.
Elizabeth Joy Peyton (b.1965, Danbury, CT) is an American contemporary artist working primarily in painting, drawing, and printmaking. Recent major exhibitions include “Aire and Angels,” National Portrait Gallery, London (2019); “Eternal Idol, Elizabeth Peyton – Camille Claudel,” The French Academy in Rome, Villa Medici (2017); and “Elizabeth Peyton: A Still Life,” a survey exhibition at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2016). Peyton lives and works in New York.
