Oral History Booth

Sara D. Roosevelt Park Coalition members, Hester Street Collaborative, Asian Americans for Equality, and Partnerships for Parks have collectively organized an oral history booth that functions both as a place to listen to recordings of stories and as an interview station to capture new recordings. Sara D. Roosevelt Park Coalition, formed in 1980 and situated in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, wishes to share and seek community input for SDR Park in order to improve the lives of the residents who enjoy it. As people walk by and interact, they can listen to deeply personal and historical accounts of the park and learn how it has changed over the years. Those who want to share their impressions can sit and be interviewed about their own park experience, and offer their thoughts on how the Stanton Street Building, currently a storage space for New York City Parks and Recreation, could be improved to meet neighborhood needs.
