Building on the Museum as Hub model, the 2012 New Museum Triennial, "The Ungovernables," incorporated consultations with a worldwide network of curators, organizations, and artists.
IDEAS CITY explores the future of cities around the globe with the belief that arts and culture are essential to the vitality of urban centers, making them better places to live, work, and play. Founded by the New Museum in 2011, IDEAS CITY is a major collaborative initiative between hundreds of arts, education, and civic organizations. This year’s theme is Untapped Capital, with participants focused on resources that are under-recognized or underutilized in our cities.
The Museum as Hub initiative supports art activities and experimentation; explores artistic, curatorial, and institutional practice; and serves as an important resource for the public to learn about contemporary art from around the world. Both a physical site and an expanding network of international art spaces, initiatives, and artists, the Museum as Hub investigates the potential for mediation and exchange realized through residencies, exhibitions, and public programs.
Rhizome is dedicated to the creation, presentation, preservation, and critique of emerging artistic practices that engage technology. Through open platforms for exchange and collaboration, our website serves to encourage and expand the communities around these practices.
In 2004, the Three M (Three Museum) Project was conceived and developed together with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, to jointly commission, exhibit, and acquire important works of contemporary art by artists whose work has not yet received significant recognition.
