Acclaimed artist Wangechi Mutu (b. 1972) works across painting, collage, drawing, sculpture, and film, developing hybrid, fantastical forms that fuse mythical and folkloric narratives with layered sociohistorical references. Mutu’s practice consistently challenges the ways in which cultures and histories have traditionally been classified and proffers new models for a radically changed future informed by feminism, Afrofuturism, and interspecies symbiosis.
