This challenging image was created in an edition of thirty in honor of the New Museum’s Seventeenth Anniversary. “Andres Serrano: Works 1983–1993,” Serrano’s exhibition at the New Museum in the spring of 1995, gave the public a chance to view Serrano’s imagery in the context of a consistent body of work that critically investigates notions of religion, violence, homelessness, racism, beauty, morality, and the body.
