We’re excited to welcome our neighbors and friends with FREE admission to the New Museum’s Community Day!
Enjoy a day of creativity and exploration inspired by the exhibition “Pepón Osorio: My Beating Heart/ Mi corazón latiente.” Experience an artist-led tour of the galleries with Pepón Osorio—check-in at the lobby, space is limited. Sit in the installation No Crying in the Barbershop for a free haircut by Miles Martinez, barber and owner of local shop Tuft—check-in at the Second Floor and spots are first come, first served. Share your voice in a Poetry Workshop and speak your mind (and heart) in an Open Mic session with Nuyorican Poets Cafe. Plus, free access to all our exhibitions, which close September 17—don’t miss it!
• 12–12:45 PM: Exhibition tour with artist Pepón Osorio, check-in at the Lobby at 11:45 AM
• 12:30–2:30 PM: Haircuts with Miles Martinez on the Second Floor
• 1–2:30 PM: Poetry Workshop with Nuyorican Poets Cafe in the Theater
• 3–4 PM: Open Mic with Nuyorican Poets Cafe in the Theater
Community members with proof of residency in the zip codes 10002, 10003, 10009, 10012, and 10013 can reserve free tickets at the link below starting August 9. Tickets are first come, first served. Mark your calendars and reserve your spots today!
TICKETS
Click the link below to select your entry time and number of tickets (limit is 6). After you make your selection and have reached the Payment Information page, enter your valid zip code in the “Coupon Code” section and click apply to receive the discount. Make sure to click apply, so that no credit card information has to be given.
Please bring proof of residency with you to provide at check-in on September 9. Acceptable proofs of residency include a driver’s license, non-driver ID card, or recent mail that includes your name and address.
Visitors from outside our local neighborhood can purchase tickets to the program with the same link.
Members and visitors aged 18 and under are always free. The New Museum also offers free admission to community partners and affiliates, as well as SNAP/EBT cardholders. Please bring your SNAP/EBT card with you to receive your free ticket.

About the Participants
Nuyorican Poets Cafe was founded in 1973 and has been a renowned cultural institution and performance space located in New York City’s Lower East Side or Loisaida for 50 years. The Cafe is a hub for poetry, music, theater, and visual arts, playing a key role in the development of the Nuyorican and Latinx cultural movements.
