As part of the annual Jane’s Walk series, the Municipal Art Society will be hosting free tours around the historic Bowery and its adjoining areas, which will depart hourly between 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from a booth at StreetFest.
Named after legendary urban activist Jane Jacobs, Jane’s Walk is a weekend-long, citywide event that seeks to promote the uniqueness of urban neighborhoods through walks led by the people who keep those neighborhoods strong, livable, and resilient.
The Bowery has played a particularly pivotal role in New York’s urban evolution as one of Manhattan’s oldest thoroughfares. Rife in rich and layered history, the district has additionally emerged as one of the city’s premier cultural meccas. Come participate in a walk and uncover some of the Bowery’s secrets—past and present—in the company of other passionate people.
