Fieldwork collaborators Emily Drury and Jan Mun will lead a plant walk in Sara D. Roosevelt Park, teaching participants to gather information about their surroundings by identifying urban vegetation.
This guided walk in the Lower East Side’s Sara D. Roosevelt Park will lead participants in gleaning information about curated and spontaneous communities of urban plants. Weeds growing in the Park will provide the untapped capital for reading and relating to the landscape, ecosystem, and surrounding community. The walks will be led by collaborators Jan Mun (a media artist working with living organisms) and Emily Drury (a gardener with a background in cultural anthropology), and will focus on identifying weeds as resources with ecological, cultural, and historical value. After collecting weeds, participants will make vouchers that will be included in a collective herbarium along with field notes and observations from the event.
