LES STORIES celebrates Lower East Side history by chalking brief texts on neighborhood streets. For IDEAS CITY, sixteen chalkings will be written in various locations around the site—ten of which will have a call-in number to hear a recording of either music or text that amplifies the brief chalking with sound. The chalk and recording will both reference the history of the site itself, now almost entirely invisible except in remnants of architecture. The content will reflect the themes of 2015 Lower East Side History Month: “Lower East Side Heroines” and “Activism and Anarchy.”
