For last year’s StreetFest, the Lower East Side Ecology Center brought the River to the People by creating a faux fishing experience on the Bowery. This year, we will bring the People to the River. On a guided, 1.5-hour walk departing from StreetFest and ending at Pier 42 on the East River Waterfront, participants will learn about the untapped capital of water in New York City. We will probe the origins of our tap water, learn where waste water ends up, and discuss the practice of responsible water use. We will also examine the state of the city’s waterways and how to get to, and onto, the East River.
