The teen artists of Downtown Art take to the streets in “The Great Struggle for Cheap Meat“—based on the 1902 kosher meat strike—once more packing theater, dance, local history, and new music into a high-energy, roving rock opera. The performance moves through the Lower East Side, synced to an audio score played through individual MP3 players distributed to audience members. Using nooks, crannies, alleys, and sidewalks as their theater, the actors mingle with their environment, creating a nonintrusive overlay, silent to all except audience and cast.
Performances will begin at 1:00 and 4:00. Tickets can be purchased at downtownart.org.
