Wise Words by Artist Build Collaborative & Urban Matter Inc.

Visitors’ voices and bodies alike activate the installations created by Wise Words, which joins the narratives of adult women from various immigrant communities into a moving testimony to the experience of multicultural New York City. Whether through bringing a diverse variety of cuisines to the urban landscape or through the creation of dynamic centers of commerce and culture, older immigrants have helped shape our city into what it is today. These audio-video interfaces help to give presence to the social groups older women form to pass time, gossip, and reminisce about the past. The project will hopefully foster intergenerational curiosity and a new appreciation for the years of wealth these individuals have brought to the fabric of our communities.
