Collecting Memories

Part of the Street Program

Learn about the rich history of the New Museum, founding Director Marcia Tucker, and the Museum’s inaugural exhibition “Memory.” Held in 1977, this group exhibition featured multiple works reflecting on the connections between personal and collective memory. At this Festival station, participants can contribute their own memories to help create a collaborative cultural history. Visitors will be asked to respond in writing to memory-related prompts and then pose with their texts for photo-booth portraits. Photos will be uploaded to a website, and a free copy of the print will be given to participants. Also at this station will be hands-on activities and memory games suitable for younger audiences, as well as a family guide to IDEAS CITY, the New Museum, and its surrounding neighborhood of the Bowery.

This station is hosted by Family Programs at the New Museum but will be appropriate for all visitors.
