The Circus for Construction is a mobile gallery that travels to and generates sites of discourse in unexpected locations
Part of the Street Program
Circus for Construction is a traveling event space situated on the back of a truck for exhibiting and experiencing works of art and architecture. Located in a configurable, custom-built exhibition space, the Circus draws from a long history of mobile architectures. At IDEAS CITY, the Circus will team up with the architecture firm Austin+Mergold to investigate building insulation—a ubiquitous, but invisible, construction material. What is the price of our cities’ thermal comfort, bought with the virtually infinite lifespan of this under-examined product? Visitors can experience prototypes of A+M’s PLANCH benches made from reused insulation, peruse a broadsheet, and view a series of reimagined architectural drawings in the Circus’s exhibition space.
This event is organized by the Circus for Construction team, consisting of Ann Lui, Ashley Mendelsohn, Larisa Ovalles, Craig Reschke, and Ben Widger, with the Austin+Mergold team of Jason Austin and Aleksandr Mergold.
