Community Paint Day

During StreetFest, Community-Word Project students from across the city, our teaching artists, and festival attendees will all work together to realize the visions and strong voices of our city’s youth in the form of a collaborative painted mural. The mural designs will be inspired by our students’ poems and will be sketched on the canvas so that those who want to join in our effort can contribute.

Our organization provides art instruction to under-resourced public schools in New York City; our students explore creative writing, visual arts, performance, and music, working collaboratively to write community poems and to translate their visions into the type of colorful, painted murals you will get to experience firsthand.
