Genspace is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting access to biotechnology and science innovation at the grassroots level, particularly DNA-based technologies like synthetic biology, genomics, and genetic engineering. Since 2009, we have served the greater New York area. We work outside of traditional settings, serving both adults and students in providing a safe supportive environment for a hands-on exploration of biotechnology.
Biotechnology touches virtually every aspect of our daily lives—from food to fuel to medicines—and is accompanied by a host of social, moral, and ethical questions. To answer these questions, we believe that each of us should have a working knowledge of biotechnology. This transformative technology is demystified at Genspace, where we encourage everyone to participate.
For IDEAS CITY we present two of our popular public workshops: Strawberry-DNA Extraction and Painting with Bacteria. Some of our public outreach events include Maker Faire Africa, the US Science & Engineering Fair, the World Science Festival, DLDMunich, TEDGlobal, and AAAS Family Science Days.
