Part of the Aula Series A Performative Conference in Nine Acts
Writer and performer Danny Hoch will perform an excerpt from Taking Over, a theatrical piece addressing gentrification and feelings of displacement in New York City. In the performance, Hoch captures the indelible characters of his neighborhood, where a melting pot is boiling over with ethnic and economic tensions. With compassionate and hilarious results, Hoch depicts a city in which the boundaries separating race, age, and gender are undergoing transition with compassionate and hilarious results across these same boundaries.
Danny Hoch is an actor, playwright, and director whose plays have garnered many awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, two Obie Awards, an NEA Solo Theatre Fellowship, two Sundance Fellowships, a CalArts/Herb Alpert Award in Theatre, and a Tennessee Williams Fellowship. He is the founder of the Hip-Hop Theater Festival, which has presented over one hundred Hip-Hop Generation plays from around the globe and now appears annually in several US cities.
