The Walk Study Training Course, 2012
The Walk Exchange is a group of interdisciplinary practitioners who develop educational, creative walks that are open to the public. Since 2010, we have led a free annual training course and developed over a dozen participant-centered walks. We view walking (whether on foot, in a wheelchair, or otherwise) as untapped capital, and advocate for it as a way to learn about our city and to create new relationships between people, spaces, and ideas. For IDEAS CITY, the Walk Exchange will lead three mini-courses on Saturday May 4, each of which pair a New York–specific poem or song with a planned route through the Lower East Side. We encourage conversation, discovery, and a new approach to familiar (or unfamiliar) streets. Come find us at the StreetFest to read the poems, listen to the songs, and sign up for one of our group walks! These materials and sign-up lists are also available on our website, walkexchange.org.
