Come to our next Fixing Session!
The Fixers Collective is a social experiment in improvisational fixing and aggressive asset recovery. Our goal is to increase material literacy in our community by fostering an ethic of creative caring toward the objects in our lives. We plan to engage StreetFest-goers on two fronts. First, we will announce a Fixing Session prior to StreetFest, so people can plan to bring their items and provide us with a group of things to work on during the event. Secondly, we will warmly engage passersby by telling them about our collective, and, if there is enough time, extend the opportunity for those passersby to bring their own stuff for fixing.
Our Fixing Sessions actively engage ALL participants. Anyone who brings an item for fixing is expected to participate in the repair process. They’ll be popping latches, opening cases, twisting wire nuts, and looking for cracks and burn marks. Thusly, their material literacy increases along with their confidence. Those who ask to drop in their items for fixing will be highly encouraged to participate.
