Part of the Street Program
This project, led by Thailand-born, New York City–based artist Pairoj Pichetmetakul, will utilize socially inviting plein air portrait-painting sessions to create temporary outdoor art spaces that are free for open participation.
IDEAS CITY visitors will be invited to participate by joining as additional artists or by sitting for portraits/interviews with the project’s artists. Written interview notes alongside each portrait will be kept as a continuous large scroll of heavy-grade paper, creating a long-form illustrated journal that will be exhibited onsite. The project began fourteen months ago and now includes over two hundred portraits. It seeks to highlight the unnoticed and overlooked, with an intention to inspire others, raise esteem, change expectations and preconceptions, and reveal histories. This iteration will allow visitors to enter the scrolls and help write this continuous story.
